Season 2010 Launched

The Hobart Chargers 2010 season was launched by the Premier David Bartlett at Tattersall’s Park. A good crowd was in attendance for the launch breakfast with special guest Chris Anstey and Larry Sengstock and a number of other dignitaries.

President Chris Old spoke about what a strong position the club was in and the introduction of the Lady Chargers was part of the plan of moving the club forward.MC for the day Hank Petrusma had very open and frank interview with Chris Anstey which entertained those present and gave a wonder insight into some of the issues faced when playing in foreign countries.

The big announcement of the day apart from the chargers are ready to play was, if re-elected a Labour government would build a multipurpose stadium at Cosgrove High School. An $18.5 million pledge to convert the school in the first specialised sports school for Tasmania. As part of this pledge the stadium would provide a stadium for the Hobart Chargers basketball teams seating over 2000 spectators.

Brandon Polk Joins Chargers

The Terry White Hobart Chargers are set for another stellar year after signing exciting 26 year old US import, Brandon Polk for their 2010 season.

The 201cm, 93kg centre/forward hails from Witchita, Kansas, where he attended Butler University featuring in the line up for the All Horizon League Second team.

Brandon is set to dominate during this year’s SEABL roster, after his successful stint with Karhu Finland, in which he averaged 16.6 points per game at 69.5%, along with an average of 8.8 rebounds per 33 minute game.

Head Coach, Anthony Stewart, is confident Brandon will boost the already dominant player group, after replacing club veteran Mark Nash after his retirement in 2009:

“We needed to bring someone in to help cover the loss of club stalwart, Nashy. I believe that Brandon will compliment the young group of players and also give us the best opportunity to secure another championship.”

Brandon will join Chuck Long, as Hobart’s second American import, with both assisting to bolster the identity of the sport in Hobart through development and community projects, such as 3 on 3 events, Aurora in Schools program participation, school camps and midnight basketball projects.

The Terry White Hobart Chargers are excited to welcome Brandon to the team and are looking forward to an action-packed season, commencing Friday March 12th at Aurora Stadium.
