It is time for our final player award for 2018. And this one is perhaps the toughest one to pick. The Spirit of the Chargers Award is designed to recognise that player who best represents the club's values and aspirations.
As a club we believe in building and inspiring pathways and communities through basketball. All of our players make a contribution to that through community work, sponsor engagement, spending time with the young ballers of southern Tasmania and visiting hundreds of schools. And of course they inspire us every game night.

This award could have gone to many players including Alex Finlayson and Jordy Hargrave - local players who really stepped up media appearances for the club this season. Or to Kathleen Scheer or Tre Nichols who went above and beyond every day inspiring young kids in schools, clinics and around the clubs.
But this year we couldn't go past the mighty Mathiang Muo:
- every night he was on court inspiring the crowd with great play, great energy and passion and often a great sense of humour,
- he fought back hard from a mid-season injury and deliver a 60% plus stat from the three point line in his first three games back
- he won the Grand Final MVP award for an inspirational and game changing performance
- every day he was out in the community engaging with the kids, with the young players, with the Hobart Chargers basketball league,
- and he was always willing to get to the early morning media appearances and the late night trainings

In many ways Mathiang, in his second season with the Telstra Hobart Chargers, has cemented himself as one of the most loved players over the last three decades in Hobart. He deserves this award and he deserves the greatest of respect and our very best wishes!
We want to see him back in Chargers colours next season and the sky is the limit.

Consistent year in and year out, Kathleen Scheer is MVP again! As always Kathleen gives her all on the court and gives her all off the court in the community.
Topping three major stats categories, showing great leadership in the women’s program and across the whole club - congratulations Kathleen, one of Hobart’s all time favourites on winning MVP for 2018! The Cascheer!

Our mighty women’s team had some highs and lows this season - but there is no doubting the commitment from some of our greats and locals.... Kathleen Scheer continues to top almost every statistical category while an incredible, dedicated pre-season from Kylie saw her win the coaches award for 2018.

We certainly celebrated lots of achievements at the Chargers this season, but perhaps none so much as watching Sharna Thompson emerge as a fully-fledged, seventeen year old super star with a massive future ahead.
Go Sharna! Most improved this year... sky is the limit for the coming years.

And finally for the Mens program we are pleased to announce our 2018 MVP mens’ player is the one and only Craig - the Engineer - Moller. Both an NBL and a SEABL ring in one year - we wish Craig the very best for a long and successful basketball future.
Can't wait to see him back in Hobart - as soon as possible.

Congratulations Tiri Masunda on winning the prestigious Margaret Turner Coaches award... one of the best seasons we have seen Tiri play amongst many for the Chargers.

It is a great thrill to announce our Most Improved Award for the Mens program for 2018.
With an outstanding performance all season and two absolutely key three-pointers when they were most needed in the Grand Final Jack Stanwix is a standout for Most Improved. Congrats Jack!

One of the challenges of running a successful SEABL club is finding the time to announce our annual team awards... After the season ends? after finals end? Before players fly out? It's a tough one... So this year... this week - we will be announcing our award winners online, right here for you our Facebook fans. Show the love to our great players all week as the awards role out... first up our Mens team awards. Coming soon Most Improved, MVP for both Mens and Womens - and ending later in the week with the Spirit of the Chargers Award to the player we think most represents the culture, attitude and approach that we aspire to.
